Hi! I'm new here, so please excuse me if I ask something that has already been asked...thanks for your patience!

I have an ipad1, i have downloaded Skype for ipad, yet when I use it, I can hear but I can't speak. Does the ipad have a microphone? If so, where is it? Or do I have to download one? Or maybe I have to download Skype again?

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Yes the iPad does have a microphone, I have an ipad2 so I'm wondering if they are the same, mine is a tiny slot at the top side of the iPad when held in portrait. Have a look, it is very tiny. So people aren't hearing you? Try to aim your voice there when in conversation. If its still not working close the app completely and then relaunch it. From the home screen do the four finger swipe up or double press the home button to reveal your multi task bar. These are all the apps that you have opened at one time. Long press the app until it jiggles and a red minus sign will appear above it. Press the minus sign, this will close the app, not delete it, now press the home button to return to your screen. It's also a good idea to close all these apps, as it helps the iPad run smoothly. Try it again and let us know.
