I have recently upgraded to IOS5 and now find when I play a downloaded maudlin book or podcast are at a faster
than normal speed. IOS4 this was adjustable,so on IOS5. Can anyone help.

Welcome. iOS 5 jacked up a bunch of music, audiobook and podcast features. This link might help, but a number of features have been lost or screwed up:

To work around, I recommend the Downcast app for podcasts and not buying any more audiobooks through iTunes. I buy all mine through Audible now and use its app, which has features stripped out of iOS 5's audiobook functionality.
