    New guy from Mass.

    Hey everyone.
New guy from Massachusetts here. Just picked up my new iPad. Haven't gotten to do much to it yet but I can't wait to play with it. Can anyone give me the low down on some good apps? I am looking for something to view word, excel, pdf's and stuff like that. Looking forward to chatting with everyone.

Welcome Odin! I used to live around Baastan.

I don't have any personal experience as I now live far from Boston and am waiting on international availability, but most people recommend GoodReader for PDF files. I've already bought that in advance.

Someone was just talking about a really good app to read Office files, but I don't remember which one. Someone will pop in here to give more advice.

    Welcome!

Goodreader is excellent for viewing PDF's, Word and Excel files. I think it's still 99 cents in the app store. But, it is for viewing only, not editing.....

Thanks for the reply NumbLock and Bremen. I really only need it for viewing so that should be pretty good. How does it transfer the files? Is there a way to put them into iBooks or something like that?

Transferring files is a really crappy thing to have to do, it seems.

Luckily GoodReader supports WiFi transfers, if I remember correctly..

    Welcome from Germany.

You should also have a look at "Office HD", it's $6 and lets you edit Word and Excel files.
Pretty nice, but not as good looking as the iWork apps from Apple (which are all together $30).
Most likely written on my iPad

Yep, that was the app I was trying to think of earlier!

Sounds good. Thanks everyone for the replies. I will be checking into them. When you transfer them, do they go anywhere special?
