Assuming you already have a Wifi router setup, all you would need to do is go to Settings->Wi-Fi->Select your wifi and enter password.
Nothing tricky

Welcome and wifi
Welcome. I am also new and have iPad 2 for ten days. Didn't know I had wifi let alone what it did. But set up in Australia was easy even for me!!
Hope you enjoy yours as much as I am enjoying mine, nick named pinky as she has a pink cover.
