FWIW you can work on your iPad while it's charging without any problems.
I guess I just assumed it'd charge faster if I wasn't using it. Maybe that's a myth? I need it to be fully charged in about an hour and a half but it might not get all the way to 100% before I gotta go to my class tonight. Ah well. Bringing it anyway.
Your video looks easy, so I'm going to run over to my iPad and try it out real quick. Hope it works. I swear I tried it like that before with no luck.
Edit: Yep, just as I thought. Because I'm gmail for some reason emails won't delete this way, they just get archived. Pretty annoying, and defeats the purpose of the swipe. It'd take me more time to swipe > archive > all mail > archive > delete then it does to press that button at the top to move it to trash. Bummer.

Apple - Support - iPad - Mail Assistant
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Gmail Help
Also, have you set your iPad up to delete emails from your email account(s) directly and not just your iPad?
Again, I'm not sure how Gmail is set up so steps 4 and 5 may not apply.
- Open your iPad's Settings
- Tap Mail, Contact, Calendars
- Tap your email account
- Tap Account
- Tap Mail
- Tap Advanced
- Tap Deleted Mailbox
- Tap Deleted Messages (under "On the Server)
Hope that helps...others may chime in.
Using the iPad while it's charging may slow the charge process slightly, but it shouldn't be noticeable.
If you have Gmail and are getting a red "Archive" button versus a red "Delete" button - go to your Settings app. Then, select "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and then your Gmail account. When a pop-up window appears, scroll to the bottom of it and turn "Archive Messages" off.
That ought to make it so your Gmail e-mails delete right out of the Mail app - from the start.
There you go! I was hoping an expert would jump in!

Re charging, it probably does charge faster if you're not using it, but it's fine to use while charging, and it will charge. I never put my iPad down long enough to charge it without using it
Thx for the clarification on gmail settings/fix. Worked for me as well.

The password also helps to encrypt your mail and attachments on the iPad, so you probably want to make it safer than a four-digit number. internet seems slow, go to General settings>Reset>Network Settings Reset. This will clear all saved network settings and should give u a fresh start. It will not cause u to loose ur data from apps or games. This just deals with network/Internet
