Sounds like iPad Deux will be coming out in February...

I don't have that many movies but lots of pics and music on my 64G iPad and it now has less than 8% of empty space. My 32G iPhone 4 is pretty much maxed out...

Can't wait for a larger memory for both the iPhone and the iPad.

I'm not good about introducing myself in forums LOL I've had my Ipad since early May and bought a second for my husband in August. i've been reading this forum for a long time but guess I should become visible. I use my Ipad for most everything but processing my RAW photo files. I have only used my laptop several times since getting the Ipad and may not boot my desktop more than a couple of times a week. Dropbox, Office HD, Goodreader and other apps make things easy to work with the Ipad mobilely (is there such a word LOL?)

I read quite a lot on the Ipad but wish my state library played nicely with the Ipad. I can't open any books at present though I've had conversations with the library folks. As it is now, it depends entirely when the software producers and Apple and Adobe have a meeting of the minds and that doesn't look likely soon LOL. I do read a lot of newspapes and news sites besides books too.

All in all, my Ipad is always with me, wifi only but we have multitudes of free wifi spots and I have mobile hot spot in a pinch

Good forum and the one I prefer to read for the Ipad

    Diane,

As a fellow Tarheel, I read your post about having issues with ebooks from the library with interest.

I just got an iPad and have my first EBR (Kindle 3) coming. So I know very little about the ebook world at this point. I barely know how to turn on the iPad. (It sure is a different world from PCs).

However, I have played around with Calibre and have been able to d/l and read books from the library on my PC (epub format).

I'm curious what you've run into here in NC about the library ebooks because I also plan to use library lending a great deal.

I would pm you but the system won't let me until I get a few more posts. If you wish to discuss this, you can email me at speedlever at NOSPAMyahoo.com. Take out the appropriate parts of that email address.

    Thanks.

Diane and Speedelver (and anyone else!),

As far as libraries not being iPad friendly, OverDrive has finally come out with an iPhone app for the OverDrive Media Console, but it looks like the the reviews are pretty bad so far with more people giving it only one star than all of the other ratings combined! They claim to also be working on an iPad app as well so I think I will wait.

The one thing you can do in the mean time is to download the free Bluefire reader app then you can go ahead and download the books as you normally would with the Adobe Digital Editions program on your PC. You can then transfer to the book file to the Bluefire app through iTunes (full instructions are included with the app) and read the book you just checked out... legally! The file will become unreadable after the expiration date so you will have to delete the file from your iPad when you are done.

Thanks very much. I do have the Overdrive app and could do nothing with it with the selections in our library. OTOH, I'm also not thrilled by the books offered since I'm neither a mystery/thriller or romance reader LOL. I'm going to try the Bluefire app though. I was unaware of it. i subscribe to a digital reading blog to try and discover ereading possibilities but that one has never been mentioned to my knowledge. I do think the library will be increasing the ebooks offered so I want to be familiar with all of the tools offered right now. Off to try it---with a smile. I always have bought books I'm reading on the Ipad but read a lot so this opens some doors. I probably should have asked this question earlier LOL. Surprisingly, even the librarians in charge of digital material aren't cognizant of ways to read on the Ipad. The Sony reader can accept most of the offerings or you can read on your computer (I never did that nor do I ever plan to) but there are a lot of us out there with Ipads and other readers too.

My wife is a library branch manager and I am the one that told her about it!

I found out about the OverDrive app here --

It was somewhere else on this forum that I found out about the Bluefire app.
