I have a first generation iPad, and I don't know how to update the operating system. I still have iOS 3 and can't even use 90 percent of the apps I want. I'm truly not an idiot, but when I connect the device to my computer, nothing happens and I have no idea what to do.

Hi I'm new here. The reason I come to this site as I would like to expand my knowledge on how to to use the IPad, especially how to troubleshoot if there's any issue.
