Tell us a bit about yourself, for example:
- Why are you interested in the iPad?
- What are your hobbies?
- What other gadgets are you using?
This will help us to better answer your questions as we will have a rough gauge as to your knowledge level.
I say that I am a new member even though I joined the forum over a year ago because this is my first time actually participating in the forum.
My wife and I were attracted to the original iPad for our severe autistic granddaughter Emily. When we realized how much she liked it we decided to get her a new iPad 3 because of the camera and I swapped it with her for her old iPad. I was impressed with the durability of the iPad in that in spite of her dropping it numerous times she never broke it in almost 2 years.
Eventually she dropped and broke the iPad 3 and thanks to Apple care plus it was replaced very inexpensively.
Emily's iPad got my wife and me hooked. Her iPad ended up with our other granddaughter, we ended up buying our son an iPad 2, and last Christmas I bought myself and my wife iPad 3's. This year I added an iPad 4 and my wife bought herself an iPad mini.
The iPads also led to iPods, iPhone 4's iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 and eventually MacBook Pros and Mac Minis.
I thought we were going to make a complete conversion from Windows XP and Office 2003 to 100% Apple but it turned out there were too many programs that simply were not available (or comparable) without Windows so there have been some Windows 8 computers as well.
The above is to answer the question about how we use the iPads and my knowledge level but, while I would say that I may be an advanced amateur with Windows XP & Office 2003, I am an amateur when it comes to iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and Mac Minis. The "World of Apple" has been a difficult transition to make but the Apple Store personnel (50 miles away) and Apple Care have helped a great deal.
My main hope for the forums is to fill the gaps not covered by Apple Care (mainly software and how to questions).
Hobbies are aviation, model railroading, railroad history, photography, shooting sports and I guess you could say computers.
