Hi Traci--I own a virgin mobile broadband mifi device which is pay as you go. No contracts. Whenever I need to use my hotspot, such as a vacation, I just buy data. Typically, I buy $20 for 1Gb to use within 30 days. It seems to do well for me when I go on vacation.
Hope that helps. I am sure others will chime in with what they use.
Also--welcome to the forum!

Hello and welcome to the forum Traci!
Hi Traci and welcome to the Forum!
A mifi would seem the best choice as Skimonkey has mentioned. Most phone carriers have these, there is an up front charge for the device and then you can arrange for a prepaid sim for it and just pay as you go or when you want it.
