    Apple "expert" help unsatisfactory

My ipad refuses to connect with pop3.live.com - the server for incoming mail in Windows Live. This is the "latest" email system from Microsoft. The Apple experts spent an hour with me, escalating it once, and finally said there was a problem with the Microsoft server. They also said they were not going to do anything about it, they were not going to escalate it further within the company, I should go through Safari to the windows live mail website to get my mail, and when I asked to be connected to a supervisor I was cut off. This is the kind of support I'm getting from Apple. I will certainly be passing my experience around to as many colleagues at Oregon State University as I can (I retired as Director of Computing, so I know a few folks up here). Thanks for nothing, Apple.

Have you tried asking the folks who run Windows Live?

The mail program works fine with the systems it was designed to work with. What is Windows Live doing that's non-standard? Active X?

    Smile Your issue with Apple

Welcome to our forum..... It is important to always introduce your self before posting but that's ok.

I can understand you are in a rage because of this we are here to help ok
I find it strange you had problems with Apple experts I assume at an apple store or on the phone.

I guess where I am coming from is Apple will provide support for Apple issues what you have is a Microsoft issue. Connectivity can be a problem and to help you I will have one of our members try to sort this out. Please keep in mind we provide this support free of charge going on about people you know means nothing to me as frankly Apple provides far better support than windows ever did and that's a proven fact.

Please understand this is a private forum of some 11,000 members many and I mean many whom have had excellent support from Apple when they needed it. I am not up to date with windows live but I thought it was a replacement for hot mail.

My answer based on limited information is to create a Gmail account forward all mail from windows mail to gmail which is one of the best for spamming etc control. Then have Apple mail get mail from gmail it's that simple.

As I said earlier I will have some one with more email program knowledge than I have contact you most likely in the next 24 hours.

Things work fine with the iPhone. Why does the iPad object to pop3.live.com? The iPad is using Outlook as its mail client when Microsoft consideres this an outdated system. Live Mail is usoft's current client. Apple jumped the gun without having adequate support for PC, it seems.

I got this from Apple support, too. So, if I'm expecting importat email, I'm supposed to check back every five minutes when the iPad claims it supports push email service from PCs. That's a cop-out answer that means "we aren't going to help you. Go to the Internet and forget that we aren't doing the job we claimed we would do when we sold you the product." Sorry, I ain't buying that "using the web version" is a "solution." If Apple is working on the problem, they should tell their customers that they DO know it's a problem, they're working on it, they're sorry it doesn't work like it should, and tell when they expect to have a fix. Instead, they insult me by cutting me off when I ask to speak to a supervisor.

---- Yes... the telephone support line.

I guess where I am coming from is Apple will provide support for Apple issues what you have is a Microsoft issue.

---- Support tried to sell this to me and I wouldn't buy it from them, either. This is a typical case of two vendors pointing at each other and leaving the customer in the middle with nobody willing to take responsibility. In this case the problem seems to me to be with Apple. Windows Live works fine. The push email works fine with the iPhone. Why doesn't it work with the iPad? At least, this is a joint issue for the two companies. But since the only product affected is the iPad, it seems to me that the primary issue is with Apple, not Microsoft. why should Microsoft care particularly whether the iPad works with a Windows mail system?

Connectivity can be a problem and to help you I will have one of our members try to sort this out. Please keep in mind we provide this support free of charge going on about people you know means nothing to me as frankly Apple provides far better support than windows ever did and that's a proven fact.

----- Your standard of proof has yet to be verified to me. A claim like that is insupportable.

Please understand this is a private forum of some 11,000 members many and I mean many whom have had excellent support from Apple when they needed it. I am not up to date with windows live but I thought it was a replacement for hot mail.

----- As Microsoft has many and I mean many more customers than Apple, it would be easy for me to claim and support a statement that many and I mean many of those customers have had excellent support from Microsoft when they needed it. I didn't have the same experience with Apple. Windows Live Mail is a replacement for Hotmail, Outlook, and Windows Mail.

My answer based on limited information is to create a Gmail account forward all mail from windows mail to gmail which is one of the best for spamming etc control. Then have Apple mail get mail from gmail it's that simple.

----- Have you ever tried to export all your mail, calendars, tasks and contacts from one mail client to another? I already did this from Windows Live Mail to Outlook because the iPad only supports Outlook. Getting all those files back into another system has already consumed two of my evenings. I don't want to get involved in yet a third email client. Windows Live provides excellent spamming etc control and I really don't have a desire to accomodate Apple's shortcomings. I'd rather they fixed their own problems instead of me enabling them.

As I said earlier I will have some one with more email program knowledge than I have contact you most likely in the next 24 hours.

----- I appreciate your response. At least in this forum I found out one important thing: this is a known problem. Apple should own it more clearly.

@whitet3260: let me say something , you look like in rage against Apple because they don’t solve your problem with microsoft email , so what about the million of Mac User can’t have a proper MSN work in their mac , can’t have a word or excel stable ?? is it also the problem of Apple if it’s so in your eyes i can only suggest you to buy a window base tablet … this a commercial war and we can do nothing

let say if you love more your email than your iPad change the tablet, if you love more your iPad change your email service …

is no more complicated than this

As Colin say we are for try to help you not for receive your rage against this one or that one …

    Have a good day
Nobody is perfect and me the first
