I had alr activate my account , but once i go in to imessage and add a new text . No contacts were shown to me , why?

Perhaps none of your contacts are using iMessage?

Firstly, are you talking about an iPad?
Are your contacts saved in the contacts app?

Yes like they said also your other contacts need to be on ios5 to use it
