Hi I have private browsing set on Safari but every time I open it up the tabs are still there from the last session.

Yes, that's the case if you don't go into settings and switch private browsing off AND confirm delete open tabs. This can also initiate a crash problem. I've been able to replicate this problem every time.

If you run into the crash issue, here's how to resolve it while you're in the Private Browsing mode...

1. Close your private tabs.
2. Open up another tab.
3. Open Settings > Safari and turn Private Browsing "Off"
4. On the close open tabs confirmation pop-up tap "Keep All"
5. Open safari (Close the tab you left open if needed)

Basically it boils down to tapping the "Keep All" option to avoid issues. That's a real pain since you have to delete any you don't want to return when you stop Private Browsing, but I can confirm that it does work. Apparently the problem arises when all of the tabs are closed.

Of course you can always clear Safari's history and cache (Settings > Safari > "Clear History" & "Clear Cache") but that's seems counterproductive and negates the Private Browsing option.

There are obviously a couple of bugs that need to be fixed by Apple and hopefully that will come in the next update to iOS 5...and soon.

Hi thanks for the reply . I have tried that, tapping delete all, but the last site I looked at is still there when I reopen Safari. I didn't get a crash either. Personally I would turn the tabs off if it was possible. Might carry on using Atomic, you can turn the tabs off on that. By the way it's financial sites mainly, not porn!
Are there any suggestions of other browsers that have tabs but the private browsing works properly?

Both Atomic and iCab Mobile have a private browsing feature...haven't tried them but I'd assume they work...worth a try at least until Apple gets this straightened out.

FWIW iOS v5.0.1 dev was just issued and it addresses a number of problems with iOS 5. Hopefully this will be one of them and we'll have an update soon!
