    Done at last!

After many failed attempts at the normal upgrade method, I decided to jump in at the deep end and do it manually.

I downloaded the ipsw file, put my iPad in DFU mode and manually upgraded to IOS 5. After the installation, Itunes restored my last backup and now it is back exactly the way it was, except on IOS 5. The whole process took less than 30 minutes.

Thanks to all the knowledgable people on this forum, it was a painless and quick process. Without all your shared wisdom, I probably would have given up by now. Thanks again.

These folks in this forum are awesome, they helped me through my first jailbreak, and like you, relied on the direction from these members and moderators. Yes they rock!

Hello Eugene and welcome to the forum!

My iOS 5 upgrade went according to expectations via iTunes - worked fine for me this morning, but I must say that I had your option in the back of my mind - glad all worked out well for you - I have yet to explore the many new features of this MAJOR OS upgrade, but will do!

Download the applicable file for your device here:

Put the device in DFU mode:
    DFU Mode for Dummies

One thing I noticed is that ctrl-click does not work, I used shift-click to restore the downloaded file. Must be a iTunes 10.5 thing.

I suggest reading up in the Hacking section of this forum. Lots of invaluable information there.
