i saw a Mini in BB and the screen looked fine. I wasn't going to buy the Mini but after playing with it in BB, it hooked me. I ordered one tonight. I have an ipad 3 as well and there is a difference, but not a big enough one to me. I got a 16GB wifi white model.
I've used an iPad 3 since the day they were released and I recently purchased an iPad mini. While you can definitely tell that the screen on the mini is not as Sharp as that of the iPad 3, it definitely appears sharper than the screen of an iPad 2, which I also own. Likely this is due to the smaller size of the individual pixels. It's very hard to notice the pixels unless you look at the screen from a closer than normal distance.
This is complete exaggeration.
I am using it right now and I wouldn't call it bad. Yes, the iPad 3 and 4 could be so much better given that it has retina display. But I don't think it's worse than the ipad 2. God such critics can be so hard to please.
I have the iPad 3 and just bought a Mini for my wife. I really like it an it is very difficult to notice the difference of the screen between the two.Quote:

I personally don't notice a difference and enjoy using the mini for reading.
The iPad 2 has a pixel density of 132 pixels per inch and the Mini has, I believe, 163 pixels per inch. The Retina display on the 3rd and 4th gen iPad is 264 pixels per inch. This means the Mini isn't Retina, but is better than the iPad2
The pixels per inch are more than the iPad 2, so it's slightly better. I have an iPad 2 and think the screen is fine for browsing the web, watching YouTube and Netflix. Movies are fine too. I think people are a bit obsessed with screen displays.
I am quite pleased with the Mini's screen. I just put a library book on it and am using it as a reader. Yes, the screen is not as clear as my iPad3, but it's perfectly fine as an e-reader. I have the font relatively small and the background is sepia. Yes, when I hold the Mini right up to my face, the type isn't clear (it's jagged/fuzzy). But, when I hold the Mini closer to my lap in a more natural reading position, the type is fine (quite legible, in fact).
Me happy Mini purchaser ... more and more! :)
