It sure is cute. I'm staying away from places that sell it over the next few weeks, because I might succumb and buy one, and I really don't need one.
That is wise. But you will have your iPad 4 in a few weeks with that lovely retina display and super fast processor. That is the top tablet on the market.

Now, if apple could have gotten a retina display and an a6 inside a mini at the same price and weight, with similar battery life and thermal characteristics, the mini would be this tablet to have. As thing stand now, we can't get both from apple for various reasons.

I agree. Any movie I'm serious about I'm not going to watch on any tablet, unless I'm on travel and have little else to do.

AQ_OC, I meant to ask: What kind of SIM card does mini have and have you switched your data plan to it or added a new plan?

Mini is a great gaming and movie device

I'll answer for the Admiral: the Minis with SIM cards have not been released in the wild yet. The only ones available are the WiFi-only models.

But, according to the manual just released, Apple says it will be a 'Nano SIM card" (at least that's how it's labeled in the diagram). So, what, that's the same card as the iPhone 5, right?

Yeah, well, at least you didn't tell the Apple guy that you wanted an AT&T model Mini - right there in the store!

    I felt like a maroon....

I guess you have the answer now. I'm still deciding whether to keep the wifi or not....part of me is saying that I know they will release a retina display version next year, and maybe I ought to save the money now, to minimize the loss as I know I will bite on that upgrade. But another part of me is wondering if I would really want a device with a retina screen if it means more heat, less battery life, and greater weight. I wish I could read the tea leaves and know the future.

I do know this...I'd rather have LTE in the mini than in the iPad.

FWIW, I have a mifi, so whenever I buy a gadget other than a phone I always go wifi only.....my theory is that for the one off cost of my mifi I'm saving on the cost of every other device......and as 4G and future upgrades to the mobile network come along I only have one device to upgrade.......that's my theory anyway!
