Hello, this is my first post apart from the introduction. My experience of the site has been very frustrating so far ... I have the site's app, but it does not open on the home page, and offers no navigation tool to get there so far as I can see, no Home button or anything else. I have only been able to get here via links in posts. I've been to Help, Settings, it's just hopeless. I went to Settings on my iPad, but the app isn't even listed there, although it is installed and I am using it.

Please help.

The app for this forum doesn't have access to the home page. There are some this app cannot do that you can do from the web version. When you want to see the home page on your iPad you'll need to use Safari.
For the first few months that I was a member of these forums I had never been to the website. I didn't even know there was an informative home page.

You can get to the home page from within the IPF App in a couple of quick easy steps.

Yes, I only learnt about that recently myself but I now use it regularly.
