As MoonlitSonata said, you won't harm your iPad before unplugging before fully charged. But my understanding is that if you try to charge off your computer via the USB cable, that will take forever as a slow trickle charge, because there is not enough current required for your iPad to charge properly.

That's correct unless you are using a Mac the charge is fine and not a trickle charge
