Gmail App multi language spelling checker

    Hi,
On my computer I can rightclick and select the language I want gmail to check in my messages.
I installed a language add-on to be able to do this.
Is this also possible using the gmail for iPad app?
Since I'm writing in two languages it is a nice thing to be able to check spelling in more than one language and to be able to flip between languages.
    Thank you

You can switch languages on the iPad's keyboard, which should also switch the spell checking dictionary in any app that supports it.

Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > International Keyboards and choose Add New Keyboard.

Once you have your second keyboard added there will be a world key to the left of the space bar. Use it to switch between keyboard. Tapping cycles the keyboards. Tap and hold for a menu of keyboards to choose one (handy if you have more than two).

Check the iPad's spec page for what languages are supported for the keyboard and dictionary.

Please let us know if this works for you.

You are spot on, twerppoet. It works exactly as you describe.

Just to add, if you are typing a foreign word into a block of text, you can spell check for that single word by switching keyboards according to twerppoet's instructions, and then switching back to your normal keyboard.

Nice tip. Hadn't thought of that; probably because I'm language challenged. I blame, well, I guess I can't blame anyone. I did go to the classes.

I was immersed. When I was trucking in Europe it was sink or swim, so I picked up some French, German and Italian and stammered my way around with those, usually a mixture of them that bore no relationship to the country I was actually in at the time.

I took Russian in college, and got an incomplete. I've taken beginning Spanish, twice, and started some self learning courses at least three times.

Results: A couple dozen words of Russian, not all of them fit for polite company. Enough Spanish to know what language I'm not understanding. I've also netted a few words of Japanese from watching too much anime.

I'm still planning on correcting this unworldly mono-linguisim. I've got two Spanish language apps (that I occasionally play with) on the iPhone and iPad. I can now say important things like 'The man is reading' = 'El hombre es leyendo'. Progress, of a sort.

German and Italian are fast disappearing. I just don't have the opportunity to practice them any more. At one point, although far from fluent, I could at least get by pretty well. My spoken French is terrible, and always was, but I can read and write it OK.

Hi, thank you for the answer.
But of you use multiple languages, even within one mail, it's not an easy way to switch between languages.
Hey, I'm also studying Italian :-)
    Greetings
    Roeland
