Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I would say that most members with an iPad 1 have updated to IOS 5 and are happy that they have as there are so many new features available. Any glitches with battery performance was addressed with subsequent small updates. All apps have also been updated to run on this OS and as time goes on your iPad apps will eventually become unusable unless you do update. The crashing problems seen with an iPad 1 are to do with ram issues, the ipad1 has 256mb, the iPad 2 512mb and the new iPad has 1gb, there are steps you can do to minimize this happening though. Limiting location services, deleting your History and Cookies and closing your apps completely are all steps that will clear ram, it's just a little housekeeping which I also take with my ipad2 to keep it running smoothly.

I would recommend doing the update and if you need guidance just let us know.

Because my upgrade went smoothly I decided to attempt to upgrade my partner's iPad 2 and I have run into a problem when restoring from back up I am getting the following error message. "an error occurred while restoring this iPad (0xE800400B). I have tried restarting iTunes but still get the same error. The upgrade has happened but some of the apps will not load. Any further advice?

Are you using the same PC that this iPad has synced to before? I think that's music it's trying to restore. You have the latest version of iTunes installed on this computer?
