do I get the music from my iPod to my iPad

You have to use iTunes as an intermediary. If the songs on the iPod are already in iTunes, hook the iPad up to iTunes and transfer the songs over (while in the Music tab).

If the songs on your iPod are not in iTunes, you have to get them into iTunes, either with a third party program or pulling them in with the computer. Once the songs are in iTunes, again, you hook the iPad up to do the transfer.
