Have bought a cable to play my pics videos etc from iPad through tv when I plug in nothing happens one end has the yellow red and white leads and a USB which doesn't fit anywhere in my tv and the other end fits ok into I pad

I don't have the rca connections like you, but when I use the HDMI on my tv, I have to select it as the source (there's a button for that on the remote).

What cable do I need then what does your connection look like that goes in your tv

It think you may be a little confused. Your title states your talking a HDMI cable, but what you've actually described there is an AV cable. If you have a modern HD tv then you'll have a HDMI port in the back of your tv and you'll thus be able to connect your iPad to it using the apple connector and a HDMI cable. If you have indeed got the av cable then you need to plug each of the leads into their respective colours in the back of your tv. If you're sure you've plugged the leads in properly then check your on the correct channel on your tv. If you're unsure there is normal an 'input' button on your tv remote that allows you to change what is giving the TVs picture. You need to put it into av mode to get the picture. See whether that works and if not we can try something else.

On least thing, if youre using an iPad 1 make sure you're in your picture app when you try and get a signal as the iPad 1 only mirrors certain apps.
If you're using an iPad 2 disregard that sentence . Good luck.

Hi Lynz - the cable adapter that I've used is shown below - has a docking end to the iPad and an HDMI input at the other end; plus, a USB connection for charging if needed; an HDMI cable is needed which will carry BOTH HD video and audio to your TV; of course the latter will need to have an HDMI input, and as already stated HDTVs have multiple inputs and the correct one needs to be selected to view your iPad on the TV.

Now you appear to have a standard definition (SD) composite adapter (i.e. yellow carries the combined video signals, thus just SD; and the red & white RCA jacks are for standard stereo audio). But there are other options, such as 'component' video (3 cables) which is also HD video, but needs additional audio inputs. S-video is yet another choice for the video signal (and requires audio cables).

So basically more information is needed about: 1) your TV, i.e. what type of inputs relative to the above discussion are available; and 2) does your composite adapter have an end that docks w/ your iPad - this should be easy to resolve so more information will help - good luck!

Hi I've tried that and still no joy what does a hdmi cable look like? Grrrrr it's driving me mad this lol!

Hi does that connection you pictured fit directly from iPad to tv and where do I get one? The cable I have fits my iPad and the RCA jacks fit tele but nothing that will fit the hdmi plug in my tv just has a USB on it aswell

First, you need the iPad adapter pictured above. You can get it anywhere that sells iPad accessories. Then, you need an HDMI cable. If your tv has an HDMI connection, then that's all you need.

If your tv does not have an HDMI connection but does have the rca connections (red, white and yellow) then you need a converter box, such as the one below, and cables. Connecting the hdmi-to-rca cable directly to the tv will not work, as I suspect you are finding. I belive the usb connection on the tv is just for updating the tv software. That's what my tv usb is for.

If you google hdmi to rca, you'll find a lot of options. However, if you feel uncomfortable trying to figure this out, maybe a trip to a store that sells this kind of equipment will help. They can suggest what you need. You might find it helpful to take a photo of the connections available on the tv.

These are examples. I do not own these and cannot speak to their quality or cost. There are many types of converters, depending on how you need to connect to the tv. The link below is just one type.

As already stated, the iPad adapter that I own is from Apple (just check their store - plenty of other options offered) - an HDMI cable is needed which attaches to the adapter and then to an HDMI port on the TV (the cable needed is shown in the first link of the previous post) - appears that your TV does not have HDMI inputs (and USB is of no use).

Thus, the video inputs into your TV may be just composite and possibly component or S-video - you just need to check (google their appearances or review the TV's manual) which inputs are present on your present TV and post back for more specific advice.

Now there are cables on the market (like the one below) which appear to convert an HDMI digital signal (like from the iPad) to analog composite video/audio (i.e. yellow,red,white RCA plugs; the other connector is VGA) - however, digital to analog conversion via just a wired connection is iffy at best (this cable was reviewed poorly on Amazon).

So, if your TV has ONLY RCA analog video/audio inputs, then as already stated, your best bet is to use the Apple iPad adapter (as shown in my post previously) w/ an HDMI cable plugged into a digital-analog convertor box w/ further composite cabling from that box to your TV (as shown in the second link in the other post) - just trying to reinforce the comments already made. Now if you go that route, i.e. convertor box, please check the reviews on Amazon - some seem to work well and others appear to function poorly.

Maybe time to get a new TV (which I did a few months ago)? Good luck -
