This will make me sound really dim.....but the question is....when I close the magnetic lid on my IPad ,does in turn it off the Internet ? ..I ask the question because I do not have unlimited Internet.

It depends on your settings. If, for example, your email is set to push then every so often it will connect to check for email. Other apps may also connect depending on settings. Overall any usage of data should be minimal though.

Well 40gb is pretty huge, I've never used that much, not even close, so unless you download a lot of films then you should be fine.
