Another issue just surfaced after latest ugrade...I agreed to iCloud. Now I find safari is completely different to use. It has lost its multi screen facility, never sure if is closed, use just one screen at a time, no miminise tag and is much harder to use. Hate it.

And I am unsure if this was part of the latest upgrade (probably) rather than the iCloud strorage.

Could someone explain whats happened and if I can get my only safari back. Thanks.

You're experiencing the latest version of Mobile Safari. It came with the upgrade to iOS 5.0, nothing to do with iCloud. Some people love it, some not so much. You can't please everyone. It has tabs rather than thumbnails. You can open multiple tabs (up to 10 IIRC) by tapping the plus sign at the top-right of the screen.

You close it just as you would any app. Double press the home button to access the multitasking tray, tap and hold the icon until it starts to jiggle, then tap the red circle in the upper left-hand corner of the icon to quit the app.

Unfortunately there's no way to roll back to either an earlier version of Safari or iOS.

Yes, it basically mirrors the regular Safari web browser...and pretty much most others. When they first introduced the thumbnail concept there was a hue and cry for tabs...after all ALL web browsers use tabs! Then folks got used to the thumbnails and now some (the same ones?) are fussing about tabs. If I were an app developer I'd be busy at my workbench trying to emulate the old thumbnail concept and make some money...although with patents and all that might be more of a challenge than it seems.

in any case, it took me a bit to get used to as well, but it's fine now IMHO.

    Enjoy!

Oh, try resetting your iPhone...I found that made mine snappy again...

Reset: You can do this by pressing the Home button and the Sleep/wake switch on the top the case and holding them down together for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo. It should then reset itself. The boot up process takes a few minutes and then the it should be responsive again. More here:

Ah ha, thank you. I think part of my issue was the sudden not knowing how it all worked...but now I see its a tabs function its not so bad. But I am never sure if its closed each time and having to do the double tap jiggle tap close each time is long winded. Probably leave it open which should be ok. Does that x tab top left not close it properly too?

The "X" on the tab closes that window is all. If you want to fully quit Safari (or any other app - which BTW is a good idea periodically), you need to access the multitasking tray, tap and hold the icon, tap the red circle.

FWIW you can also access the multitasking tray by swiping four fingers up on the screen (providing you have multitasking gestures turned on - Settings > General > Multitasking Gestures > "On") instead of double pressing the Home button.
