"rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying"

Please help me if you can. I don't know what I may have done. I've had my iPhone for almost 2 yrs & my iPad forabout 3 months & they both seem to have gone mad!!!!!!
Every time I try to send an email lately it won't send & I get the following message:

    Cannot send mail
A copy has been place in your outbox. The recipient ........... was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying"

I really don't know what this means or how I can rectify it.

I would appreciate any help you can give.

Ps I am not a computer minded person so plain 'talk' would be appreciated

    Thank you

Me too on my iPad. I have tried all suggestions in other forums but nothing has resolved the problem. Getting really frustrated. Hope someone comes up with the right solution for us both. Regards

This has started on my iPad 3. I arranged a new email address, and after a week of use I was receiving the same message.

As the other posts were some eighteen months ago, has a resolution been found?

    Please help!!

This is a email server issue. Whomever is providing the email address does not allow the relaying of emails and/or you are trying to send an email via a different SMTP server than the one linked to your email address. Some information about your iPad set-up in regards to emails would be good.

    Thanks for the answer.

I have set up my new email address within Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Add Account and set it up according to the instructions provided. This is a "personalised" address as purchased through Hover.com, a service of Tucows Inc. I have also posted a question on their site and currently wait a reply.

The service worked perfectly for a few days, and feeling confident I advised all my friends of the change in email address (I have left Hotmail after 10 years!) I use both iPad and W7 PC, and the latter is set up on Mozilla Thunderbird, where I am receiving the same problem, so I don't believe it is specific to iOS.

Is this enough information for you to help me?

    Many thanks
