Angry iPad update iOS 5 update sucks. Mail app crash

Also Safari very slow. Tried deleting iCloud, but no better. Can I downgrade this update to previous version?

Until now I had no complaints at all!
    Now , it's a pain.
    Am using IPad first generation.
Is there any way to contact Apple directly?
    Thanks
    G

Have you tried reseting the iPad?

Reset: Hold down the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. The iPad will reboot. This usually takes a bit longer than a restart.

This often clears up problems when restarting is not enough, especially right after an update.

Ever since install of ios5 on iPad 2, mail will crash, often will be when composing an email. I did a reinstall of iOS 5, which erases all, then restored a backup. Same issue. I can no longer trust it for email, which epwas a huge use for me. I have pinned it down, I think, to it crashing when there is also an incoming email. I have turned off mail notifications, as that, I thought might help, but no luck. It is mostly mail, but often crashes in other apps; just less consequential than losing a long email. Happens to my husband, too. Anyone have a sure fix?

As twerp poet suggests, a reset (not a restart) has cured these issues for almost everyone. More here:

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If Safari is slow it sounds more like a broadband issue. You could try rebooting all of your network, modem/router, computer, etc. and test your speeds.

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test (they have a free app to test network speeds for the iPad)

Sometimes going into settings and deleting (removing) the network and setting it up again will cure WiFi issues. Distance from the router and interference can slow things as well.

If it still has problems I'd look at restoring it either to an existing backup or to factory settings and then set things up again. More here:

iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software

If that doesn't work go ahead and contact Apple

Apple - Support - iPad - Contact Support

Apple - Support - Contact Support

Contacting Apple for support and service

FWIW we upgraded our first generation iPad to iOS 5 on October 12th and after a reset it's been running as well as or better than before so I know it can work.

Hope that helps, best of luck and let us know how it goes.

How frustrating! Try deleting your email account and setting it up again. That's worked for a lot of folks...long before iOS 5.

Let us know if that helped.

Thanks!! I think that worked. I (crossed fingers) haven't had a mail crash on the iPad 2 ios5 since I deleted and reinstalled all my mail accounts. Again, Thanks!!
