    iPad won't save backup to computer

    I have the original iPad and a couple months ago I started receiving an error when trying to sync. The iPad begins the backup but I receive an error on Step 4 saying that the iPad cannot save the backup to the computer. I can sync things to the iPad but the backup is not being done. Now I have an update and I can't update the IPad because the backup cannot be complted.

    I have searched for others who have had similar problems and have
    deleted previous backup
    deleted apps and reinstalled
    deleted movies and reinstalled
    deleted iTunes and reinstalled

    Any suggestions?
