Welcome to the forum! There are a lot of great people here willing to lend a hand anytime. Often using the search feature (in the toolbar at the top of every page) will lead you to the answers you're looking for. If not, feel free to post a question in the appropriate area.
Please take a moment to view the information linked below my signature to get the most out of your iPad as well as our forum.
With respect to your question, tell us what exactly is Mail doing or not doing, what have you done to resolve it, etc. More information will get you faster, more precise answers.
Often simply restarting the iPad will resolve issues. Failing that resetting the iPad can address more serious problems. More here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
FWIW you won't lose your apps if you restore your iPad. You can always download them again. Restoring is probably not necessary however.
BTW, I've moved your post to the iPad Help area where you're likely to get a better response to your question.
Welcome again and enjoy!

Try double-pressing the Home button to open the multi-task bar. Touch and hold any icon in the bar until they all start to jiggle. Now touch the upper left hand corner of the Mail app icon. This will completely close - but not delete - the app. Now press the Home button again to close the multi-task bar and try again.

Great news!!
Have a good weekend.
