Hello Ipad community

I am new to the Ipad 2 and just have a few issues that I am looking to resolve. When you push the button on the front of the iPad does it close the forground application completely or just set it to the background. Is there a way to check all running programs? If so how do you terminate a program that does not have a quit option within the program?

To quit a program - double tap the Home button to open the multi-task bar, press and hold any icon until they all start to jiggle, now press the upper left-hand corner of the app you want to (completely) close. Then press the Home button once more to close the multi-task bar...
