It is not possible to upload images from Safari - for that you'll need to use a third-party browser, such as iCab.

Most people choose to use an application to access Facebook. Friendly and MyPad are the two most popular. They solve most of (though not all) the issues with trying to use the FaceBook site through Safari.
Both apps have free as well as paid versions.
