Yesterday, I did a rare thing & took my iPad away from home. I just went to Micky Ds and tried jumping on their wifi(couldn't get it to work though, even though it showed I was connected & had bars??).
Anyways, I gave up and actually watched my kid's play sadness(joke people!)
Ever since then(back at home on my reg wifi) my mail circle keeps spinning & spinning but won't ever update or give me any reason why(like "not connected"). I can check my email just fine using Safari & going that route. What happened to my yahoo mail in my envelope icon mail app?
And how do I fix it?

On a side note, anybody have any idea what I did wrong trying to hop on Micky Ds wifi? Everybody else around me was using it(they might have been using 3G carriers though). I have 3 g on my ipad2, but I don't wanna activate it for a short trip to eat fast food. I went to settings & chose the wifi signal. It showed bars by my "iPad" symbol on the lefthand top side of my screen, but anytime I clicked on webpages it would say "safari is not connected".

    Thanks!

Just for starters, when away from home, did you go into settings and network and pick the Wi-Fi network at the restaurant? If so, was it open and unsecured or was a password needed?

Now at home have you entered settings & network and re-checked that you are connected to your home Wi-Fi? Now, I'm assuming you had done these suggestions but always best to start at the beginning - good luck!

The easiest first way to try to solve ‘unexplained’ or ‘unusual’ problems with the iPad are:-

Force the offending app to close. If you have iOS 4.2 or 4.3 double-press the ‘Home’ button to bring up the multi-task bar at the bottom of the screen. Press *and hold* any icon until they start to ‘jiggle’. Then tap the top left-hand corner of the app that you want to close. It will ‘disappear’ from the list. Don’t panic - you’ve not deleted it, just closed it. Now tap the Home screen and the multi-task bar will disappear. Re-open the iPad’s app and see if the problem has resolved itself. If not, it’s on to possible solution number two!!
Restart the iPad. Press *and hold* the Power button. After a couple of seconds a slider control will appear asking you to confirm that you really want to switch the iPad off (this is all you’ll be doing). Slide the control to accept. A rotating white ‘bezel’ will appear in the iPad screen as the iPad powers down (it takes a few seconds, just like it would if you were shutting down your PC). When the screen of the iPad has gone completely blank, press *and hold* the Power button for a couple of seconds until the white Apple logo appears and the iPad starts to power up. This takes several seconds, so be patient. During the power up the automatic screen orientation function is disabled, so don’t panic. A few seconds before the power up is complete, the iPad plays a little ‘jingle’ and then you’re back to the Home screen. Restart the iPad’s app and see if the problem persists. Apple (and Forum members) recommend that you power down your iPad at least once a week, just as you might regularly completely switch off your PC. The normal procedure of just briefly pressing the Power button of the iPad merely puts it to ‘sleep’. Most Forum members have found that one of the two methods I’ve mentioned here cure a whole bunch of unexplained problems and are an easy first step to resolving most anything that happens on the iPad.

Closing the apps by double tap & wiggles (-) & a hard reboot fixed it. Thanks!

The wifi thing, is it common to require a password in public advertised hot spots? I just assumed you could jump on & browse like any other unlocked/non password wifi spot. Do you just ask an employee for the password then?

I usually connect to public Wi-Fi networks while staying at hotels - these are typically broadcasted (i.e. SSID is seen) and unsecured, the latter meaning that you do not need a password.

However, you usually need to still enter your settings app and then connect to the network in question; there may be 'sign-up' agreements that you need to at least accept even if a password is not necessary.

I've also stayed at places/resorts w/ Wi-Fi in which passwords were needed but these were available on check-in or by a quick phone call.

Bottom line is that when you're connecting to a different Wi-Fi network, go through your settings & network options to pick the right one; you may have to then open your browser for the agreement issues? -
