The AT&T SIM card in my iPad has a phone number associated with it which I can see in my online account (I have postpaid service). Is there any practical use for this - e.g., can I receive SMS text sent to it?![]()

The iPad cannot receive or make telephone calls or text messages directly. Apple never thought that users would want to make calls with their iPads. Having said that, there are several third party apps that support calls - for example Skype and Whisper (in the US) - and text messaging services, but nothing that can use the native iPad.
