Yes - it does sound like a hardware issue now so I'd go to an Apple Store. It doesn't matter that you haven't purchased Apple Care as it's under warranty and they'll swap it right away for a new one. But it might be worth calling in advance to check they have one in stock.

I'm just wondering whether I might be having the same problem the previous poster was having: my magazine apps (specifically, The New Yorker and Vanity Fair) close automatically after a few seconds of my opening/launching them. Other apps seem to be okay. I've turned my iPad2 off and then on again -- the problem persists.

Would you guess that this, too, is a hardware problem?

I had this same problem and following the advice provided in the forum, I deleted the New Yorker app and reinstalled it. Now it is working fine.

I have the same problem now...when i open apps it automatically goes back to home screen...pls help...

Finally! Someone who has a similar problem to me. I've been trying to find and fix this problem for almost a week. Every time I hold my iPad 2 in portrait mode, e.g., while reading in iAnnotate or playing Tetris, it shuts down.

Since rebooting does not solve the problem, I'm simply going to go to an Apple store and get it fixed.
