Thanks for the suggestions. Went to the Apple Store Saturday and got it activated. Was warned about my cable company email address though. Told me that for some reason they don't play nice with iPad when receiving emails. I can send out but not receive. They suggested that I get a Google email address and use that one if I want to be able to receive emails. Don't know if I'm going to worry about that part very much for right now.
Like what I'm seeing for now on it for apps. Went to the app store checking around at the various free apps. Will I have to do anything special to download the free apps from the App Sotre? Will it automatically download itself or will I need a connection to something? Won't need a charge card will I?
Okay if I keep this thread open? There are so many suggestions that keep coming in and who knows what stupid question I'll be asking next.
Again, thanks for all of the suggestions.

Well...to download anything from the app store you will need a apple user I'd .you can create one from itunes or you can go at store.apple.com and create one there but you will have to add a credit card even if you're not planing on purchasing anything.
The one thing you should do with your iPad is jailbreak it right away ))) most free apps from the app store are rubbish.
But to do this you would need a Mac or windows so if you want to just post here and I'll be more then happy to send you a link to a good windows xp iso file so you can download .
Sent from my Blackberry.....nahhh...just kidding !
You NEED to connect it to iTunes if you want to activate it.
And you NEED to read all the previous posts )))

Thia is an interesting link. Think that I've seen some others also out on Google. Looks like there are some ways to do things between the iPad and Linux distros. Hmmm, very interesting indeed on some of those. Also, how do you stop the browser from opening up to where you were the last time instead of a new screen? A pain in the ass to have to change each time I open it.

There might be a tweak for stoping the browser out there but to do that you will need to jailbreak your device . I know, it's very annoying ... would be way better if safari would open up a blank tab and not reload your last page.

My bad. Forgot to include the link in the reply above. Think I saw something somewhere mentioning about going into settings and digging around in the browser to empty cache etc. So, if that can be set to automatically be done upon closing then would be nice. Notice that whenever I go to maps or some other app I had been in it automatically shows what I was doing before. Can be a pain in the butt getting away from that also. Especially the map app. Real small area to keep tapping into to get a new area to check out. Will be looking for a lot of open source apps to put on there then. Don't want to give out my credit card just for free apps. And like you mentioned the free ones aren't all that good except for maybe Google Earth. But I could probably get that also elsewhere once I get my system set up so I can transfer things over to the iPad from my Ubuntu desktop. From what I can see when doing a Google there appears to be a lot of sites coming up with things to try. Quite a lot of Videos on YouTube on doing things like this also.
I think I still have all of my old XP Cd's from where I had made a backup copy when I first got my computer. But, don't look forward to installing them all on a VB or VM. Is there a short abbreviated one that works somewhere?

I really need to know if the above mentioned method to sync your device is working on ubuntu 10.10 .I shall try it but only when I get home , and that might take a few hours.
Even if you make a tweak that automatically clears your safari's cache that wouldn't work for me because I like leaving a few open pages in it just not to open them every time I close safari .
Well, if you don't want to jailbreak your iPad there's no need for you to install windows .You can just use the above mentioned method to sync your files to your device on ubuntu(if works, and I'm really curious if it actually does) .
I am very sorry for telling you that you need to add a credit card when you create an itunes user Id because you're not ... Here is how you can do it directly from your iPad http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534
This "how to" is out of date. With the iOS 4.3, you cannot sync anymore. Something to do with some hash code... They will surely fix it, if not already. But I have 10.10, and still no luck with the iPad and iPhone under iOS 4.3.1

Next release 11.04 is supporting apps folders which is pretty darn cool to upload content into those apps like OPlayer HD. In this case, it does work.

Well...ubuntu 11.04 will be released at the end of this month but I think you can sync with into apps like avplayer or oplayer on the 11.04 beta right?
