    Calendar App Alert problem

Whenever I create an event in my calendar, I choose "none" for the alert, but then the 10 minute alert always pops back on. It's driving me crazy! I don't want an alert for some of my events, so why does the 10 minute alert keep coming back?!

Are you using the native iPad calendar app or something third party app

OK - probably not going to help....so don't get cross....

The easiest first way to try to solve ‘unexplained’ or ‘unusual’ problems with the iPad are:-

Force the offending app to close. If you have iOS 4.2 or 4.3 double-press the ‘Home’ button to bring up the multi-task bar at the bottom of the screen. Press *and hold* any icon until they start to ‘jiggle’. Then tap the top left-hand corner of the app that you want to close. It will ‘disappear’ from the list. Don’t panic - you’ve not deleted it, just closed it. Now tap the Home screen and the multi-task bar will disappear. Re-open the iPad’s app and see if the problem has resolved itself. If not, it’s on to possible solution number two!!
Restart the iPad. Press *and hold* the Power button. After a couple of seconds a slider control will appear asking you to confirm that you really want to switch the iPad off (this is all you’ll be doing). Slide the control to accept. A rotating white ‘bezel’ will appear in the iPad screen as the iPad powers down (it takes a few seconds, just like it would if you were shutting down your PC). When the screen of the iPad has gone completely blank, press *and hold* the Power button for a couple of seconds until the white Apple logo appears and the iPad starts to power up. This takes several seconds, so be patient. During the power up the automatic screen orientation function is disabled, so don’t panic. A few seconds before the power up is complete, the iPad plays a little ‘jingle’ and then you’re back to the Home screen. Restart the iPad’s app and see if the problem persists. Apple (and Forum members) recommend that you power down your iPad at least once a week, just as you might regularly completely switch off your PC. The normal procedure of just briefly pressing the Power button of the iPad merely puts it to ‘sleep’. Most Forum members have found that one of the two methods I’ve mentioned here cure a whole bunch of unexplained problems and are an easy first step to resolving most anything that happens on the iPad.

Okay, I tried what you suggested and it didn't help. Any other suggestions? It's the strangest thing. I just don't want the alert, and when I remove the alert, it comes back. Grrr!

Are you syncing the calendar with any online service, like hotmail, AOL, MobileMe, Google, etc.?

I have a local, MobileMe, and GMail calendars in the app, and none of them do this. I'm wondering if it might be a setting on the server that keeps overriding what you do on the iPad. So, you might take a look at your default settings on the server, if this applies.

Since a restart didn't work, and if none of the above helps, there are two more things to try.

If you are syncing with a service, go to that account in Settings >> Mail, Contacts, Calendars, open the account and turn the calendar off. Let it remove you events (they should be safe on the sever), wait a bit then turn them back on.

And then there is a soft reset.

I know this sounds crazy, but if nothing worked, then I have a feeling that there is another calendar app that you have set the alarm on previously and that is going off. If nothing works, and if you have a video/camera, then show us what is going on by uploading it to YouTube or dropbox or something.

OK, I've not got an iPad (got iPhone 4) but had EXACTLY the same problem. Note the word HAD.

I'll take a guess that you're using the built in iOS calendar but synching with another calendar (GMail in my case).

If it happens to be GMail then do the following:

Log into your GMail account online.

    • Choose Google Calendar at the top left of the page.
    • On the left side of the displayed page select 'settings' under 'My Calendars'
    • On the middle of the page you will see 'Notifications'
    • You should then see your Event reminders
    • Click on the blue 'Remove' next to any reminders
    • Save
    • Ta-da!
This was exactly what was causing the problem and it was driving me crazy. It was only when I thought I'd try to create an event online rather than the iPhone that I found the problem.

Creating events online created the same reminders on the phone so I knew it had to be the Gmail Calendar settings, not the iPhone calendar.

    Hope this helps!

    And enjoy your iPads....
