HELP: iPad keeps turning off
Hi everyone,
I'm running a jailbroken 3.2.1 and have Backgrounder with SBSettings installed.
iPad is running fine until an hour ago when I am reading magazine with Goodreader. Battery is 57%. Suddenly the device went dead, I turned it on again, the screen displayed big red no battery sign, and went dead again.
I plugged in the charger then turned it on again, battery showed 56%, I unplugged, and it went dead again.
I plugged in the charger again and performed hard reset, turned it on, it did show 57%. I browsed the web for a few minutes and then it went dead again.
Now I am charging it with worry...
Anybody know what could've caused this? And what should I do to fix this?
Thanks everyone.

I think I might know what caused this.

I had backgrounder and SBSettings on my iPad and it worked perfectly fine...that is not the reason.

I wasn't implying that those things alone were causing the battery issue, but we have no idea what other apps the OP downloaded... that was what I was trying to get at. Sorry for the confusion!

Yes, im sure there is something installed that is causing issues. Best idea is to go into cydia and go look at what apps you have installed recently. If you have any that are system apps start deleting them...once the problem stops you found the problem. Next time read reviews before installing from cydia or rock. (rock has a better user review system, but is way less stable).

Hi all, thanks for the responses.
The only system apps that I installed was Backgrounder and SBSettings, and I haven't been installing any apps since last month.
So this problem came suddenly yesterday. But I can delete Backgrounder and SB to test it out...
Now in addition to that, something is not right with the way my ipad is charging. I charged for 7 hours and battery only increased from 57pct to 76pct. While the device was plugged in, it made beeping sound (like when you first plug in the cable) very frequently.
Could anyone suggest what's the problem? Software / hardware issues?

Firstly are you using the iPad charger? Not iPhone, they are different. If you are using the right charger it sounds like a short, either in the cable or outlet.

Yes, Iam using ipad charger.
Now its official that my ipad would turn itself off after a few minutes. So instead of going into standby even if I don't do any activity, it just tunr itself off.

Have you tried a different outlet or cable? If it keeps making the connection sound then its either pulsing the power which is very bad for it...or its not making a clean connection.

hi gentlefury,
i tried a different outlet and the beeping sound stopped.
but here are the problems now:
1. i charged for 2 hours and the battery stays at 76pct during this time.
2. i unplugged the charger, battery shows 76pct. several minutes later battery meter jumped to 96pct and then reached 100pct. strange...
3. i use the device. it's still turning off by itself every few minutes, and i have to restart again.
i already removed sbsettings, just to be safe.
