There is a bug in Calendar that causes this on some devices. It is caused by the April 1st entry. If it is entered as an all day event reduce it to an hourly one, or if that doesn't work delete the entry for now or place as a note on March 31.
As for getting it going again, double press the Home button to expose the task bar at the bottom. Press and hold any app icon until they all jiggle, find the calendar app and tap the minus sign to force it to close. If this doesn't work do a reset/reboot. Hold the power/sleep button and the Home button together and continue to hold until the Apple logo appears, your device will start up after a longer period than normal.

Today I entered an appt on the March 2013 page (which I am pretty sure I had done a while back, but that page was blank) and after it appeared for a moment, it then disappeared. And now all previous months, which had been filled with entries are also blank. The framework of the calendar is there, but all entries are erased. I tried all the rebooting and still blank.

If you 'rebooted' you started out where you left off. Please force the calendar app to close before the reset/reboot like this....Double press the round Home button to expose the task/history bar at the bottom. Tap and hold any icon until they all jiggle with a red minus sign in the top left corner. Tap all the minus signs one by one until all apps are closed, or in your case just close the calendar app. You are not deleting or changing anything, just forcing the apps to close. When you get your calendar back delete any entries for March 31 and April 1. Make memos on March 30th for now. Let us know how it goes please.
