If I buy now, will I be able to upgrade software to the new operating system in November? If so, will there be a cost to upgrade?
Thank You

At the 9/1/ press conference, Steve Jobs said that the upgrade to 4.2 (or whatever it ends up being) will be free.
Hoping it will be free but to be honest I'd pay a nominal charge to have the functionality of the iPhone OS
iPhone 32GB 3GS & iPad 32GB 3G - a matching pair!
iPhone 3Gs (the second-generation, before the 3GS) can be upgraded to iOS 4.x for free, so I'm sure the iPad will be upgradeable for free, too.
One more time...
THE UPGRADE FOR THE iPAD IN NOVEMBER WILL BE FREE, NO CHARGE, ZIP, NADA, $0.00!!!
This is NOT a rumor!! This is directly from Apple CEO Steve Jobs as announced at the September 1 press conference.
See above. That post is 100% correct!
Yep, it's free. Just $699 for my iPad, $500 for the laptop I need to run iTunes on, $30 a month for a data plan, and then it's smoooth sailing...![]()
I called up Steve, and he confirmed once again!
I just got this email from Steve --
The 4.1 iPad iOS upgrade will be provided at no charge.
Sincerely,
Steven P. Jobs
