Just got my first Ipad...it's a 32gb Ipad2 with 3g....I want to jailbreak it....is the software free or does it cost ? I see some ads on CL for $20

There is absolutely no need to pay for a jailbreak and you should steer well clear of anyone who is demanding payment for a jailbreak.

What version of iOS is on your iPad? Because the only versions that can be jail broken on the ipad2 are 4.3.3 and 5.0.1. If you have any other version loaded, you cannot jail break that iPad2 - no matter what some fly-by-night person may say.

Jail breaks are always free - IF and WHEN they are possible.

Thank you for the info.....looks like mine is the 5.1 version, so I am out of luck. I'm going to check out a 5.0.1 Ipad 2 with 64gb and 3g that is jailbroken.

True, for anyone familiar at all with computers or iPads it should be a no brainier but I run a small repair business locally and get the occasional person who has no clue how to do it.

Usually it's for older devices though and they have trouble getting it into DFU mode. Normally it just takes a couple minutes and I just bring my laptop with all the different jailbreak tools loaded and do it over lunch somewhere. I don't charge for it but people pay me anyways, usually they buy me lunch
