Yeah. Awesome news. I lost my previous Jailbreak around a month ago. Long story but I only have a Blob for 5.1. Pod2g is the man and of course respect to others who have made his task easier. This is gonna be soooo worth waiting for.

thats cool a few days is better than a few weeks
Mentions at pod2g blog....we can upgrade now to 5.1.1 to be ready when jaibreak is released
musclenerd has also confirmed that "Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence"....
Even better news, the jailbreak will be a tripple play - Absinthe, redsn0w, and CLI, so you will be able to use the method you are most comfortable with. If I were a betting man, I would expect the order of release to be Absinthe, CLI, and redn0w...![]()

Hints by @i0n1c suggest that the 5.1.1 jailbreak might roll out this Friday during the HITB talk of the Dream Team. That is, of course, just theatrical timing though.
Downloaded the firmware updates to the computer but not going to update until release day. I have too many tweaks I don't want to live without. So, I wait.
Also, based on pod2g's blog, the 3rd generation Apple TV will not be supported by this jailbreak. Apparently they've yet to find an exploit for it.
*EDIT*
Here's a copy of the blog post for anyone too lazy to google pod2g.
@MuscleNerd wrote a quick sheet about the upcoming tools.
I won't rephrase him, so here are the contents of the file at the time of writing :
* All info below is tentative and subject to last minute refinements
* @pod2g's 5.1.1 jailbreak+untether is working out great. All devices are covered except for AppleTV3,1, which currently has no path for jailbreaking.
- the initial 5.1.1 plan used a kernel exploit from @westbaer which unfortunately precluded use in iPod3,1 and iPhone2,1
- @planetbeing stepped up and provided a kernel exploit that covers both of those. Those two JBers are the bomb!
* The 5.1.1 A5 JB is very similar to the A5 5.0.1 JB. @pimskeks has done a tremendous job supporting both 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 in absinthe
* Similar to 5.0.1, there will also be a 5.1.1 CLI "cinject" binary and redsn0w version of the 5.1.1 JB+untether. Absinthe, cinject, and redsn0w will all provide the same JB in different fashions.
- timing is indeterminate. Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence that.
* For those wishing to donate, we've set up a new 5.1.1 paypal URL: paypal
* Please don't pirate AppStore apps (seriously, please do not).

I just want to ask are there advantages to the various JB methods? Is it an ease of use thing? I do know some methods are quicker. And would it be advisable to do a backup then reset my whole device from a fresh start then JB and restore my purchased apps from iTunes?
It really does depend on the jail break tool. From what I'm reading, the new Absinthe tool (2.0) will work best, and fastest, on an iPad with little to no data on it. A lot of people end up doing the "backup - restore from new - jail break - restore from backup" process to make life easier. Of course, YMMV.
Redsn0w generally works without having to worry about what is on the iPad already. So, that may be the easier tool to use.
It really does come down to choice. Or, to which one gets released first and how impatient you are in waiting for the other tool to be released. Of course, as these are new tools, everything I have typed may be pure conjecture and the tools will work entirely differently than they have in the past.
My theory is that I will jail break my iPad with whichever tool is first released that is compatible with my computer. Yes, I am that impatient. But, since a jail break is a jail break, regardless of which tool got it that way - it doesn't really matter. Again and as always, YMMV.

Go with either Absinthe or Redsn0w they both practically hold your hand through the whole process. I like absinthe a little better because it will actually give a short explanation of what it's doing kind of like a "For Dummies" book. Either way you choose it's rather hard to screw it up as long as you follow the instructions carefully. If not and you need to troubleshoot, well, that's what you have the forum for.

I have some private ipa's built for 5.0.1 by my friend. This is for my folks. I was wondering if the same would work on 5.1.1 after the upgrade.
Thanks in advance.
