Not sure if this was the right part of the forum to post this, but:

Pretty much a straight up question, Does the Stock Droid X need to be rooted to make it able to wifi tether with Ipad 2? (Paying Verizon to enable it is not in the picture).

Yes if you don't want to pay Verizon, you need to be rooted to tether any computer to your droid.
