If your iPad is jail broken, you can go to Cydia and search for/install the tweak Remove Background (don't forget to get the SBSettings toggle for it, also. Makes life that much simpler).
The same for SBSettings - it's a free install from Cydia. Cydia, BTW, is the jail breaker's "App Store." But, it's only available and accessible to those who've jail broken their iDevices.
