Apps are sandboxed, the only spam you may get is in email. I feel that the anti-virus and malware protection apps are unnecessary on iOS - though their developers probably don't want users to believe that. The weakest link in the computer security chain, in my opinion, is the user.

You may have a look at macx video converter pro. It can download video from youtube, convert any kinds of videos to ipad. so your wife and doughter can watch their favorite videos on the ipad. Ths product is free around Christmas, off course.
Some apps you could get.
For videos, Air video is need
Cooking: Cooking Light Magazine
Games: Mr. & Mrs. Cutie pie, Angry King Kong Deluxe
My daughter is also aged six and is quite proficient with many of the apps.
I've tried to balance the games with the many educational apps.
Her favorites are:
Coloring+ (paid app but well worth it)
Temple run
Pocket climb
Monkey maths
Math board
Hangman
I enjoy flipboard and iBooks
Enjoy your search
