Some time ago, I purchased an iPad 2 and have been using it to read news & listen to music on the train ride to work. I use the hotspot capability on my smartphone to access the Internet via the iPad 2's WiFi connection. This has been working fine for over a year but right after upgrading to iOS 6, the iPad's Internet connectivity has become unreliable. When I get home and the iPad connects to our ISP's router, the iPad seems to work OK. The issue seems to be specifically when it is connected to my cellphone's hotspot.

I double-checked a few times and my smartphone is able to connect to the Internet so I know the issue is limited to the iPad. Furthermore when I restarted the iPad and the WiFi connection was reestablished, the iPad was then able to access the Internet just fine. I really don't want to have to reboot the iPad every time I need to connect to the hotspot. Is anyone else having this problem?

This has been a problem since iOS 6 was released.

    Try Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings.

That should sort it out. One of the changes in iOS 6 was the ability to drop weak wifi service in favor of 3G, so the internal changes were probably enough to upset known network connections. I had to reset my iPad in this fashion. I never had to reset my iPhone, so it's hit and miss in my experience. You will need to input passwords for all networks that you formerly had access to.

Thanks. OK, I've been doing the "re-set" routine while vacationing here in Mexico on a weak DSL out-dated router availability. It works.... but then it still drops out a lot. Question: Does re-setting it a second, or many times do anything? I've been re-setting this multiple times with mixed results. Is the re-set something that just re-sets the OS back to pre- 6.01, and pointless to re-do again?

It's done with a free app called Skitch. It's available in the AppStore.
