This is a discussion on UPS Exception Just Posted?!?! within the iPad General Discussions forums, part of the Apple iPad Discussions category; Apple purposely withholding customs clearance papers for iPad shipments? Boy Genius Report...
Phew!! I just checked my order status and saw EXCEPTION and that it's currently in LOUISVILLE, KY as well. My immediate thought was that something happened to the package because the only explanation shown is "UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY." Sounds kind of bad.
Glad I came here and found others are having the same thing. It definitely sounds like Apple is having UPS hold onto the packages so they can deliver them all at the predetermined date.
Yep, this is the best way to do it. Relying on UPS's good faith to not deliver packages early isn't substantial enough for Apple. By delaying the customs clearance, where UPS could be assessed penalties if they were to deliver a non-cleared package, Apple ensures they get their way.
Wouldn't surprise me if they hang out in Kentucky for a day or two.
[QUOTE=iWags;5895]Has anyone else seen this?
UPS is now showing "EXCEPTION"
Hope there are no issues!!!
Looks like there is progress. Mine tracking info now contains this information:
LOUISVILLE, KY, US 03/30/2010 4:29 P.M.
BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE
Mine showed shipped from China 2 days ago, then yesterday, it appeared to be in Kentucky for a while, now Kentucky is no longer there and it shows shipped from China again. I have the exception as well -- but so does everybody! Hey, it can come from the depths of hell, as long as it arrives Saturday.
Everyone needs to chill out, UPS tracking is notorious for these vague and infuriating messages. This is a big deal for Apple and UPS, they know how big a deal this thing is. Just be patient. We've been waiting since January 27th, surely a few more days won't hurt.
Good advice LMControl. I believe everyone that pre-ordered and was promised a 4/3 delivery will get them this Saturday (and not before). I could be wrong, but based on passed experience with Apple, I don't think I am.
