Why Google Became a Carrier-Humping, Net Neutrality Surrender Monkey

from Wired News by Ryan Singel

In 2007, Google put $4.6 billion on the line to defend wireless openness. On Monday, in a joint statement with former nemesis Verizon, Google said those rules weren't necessary. Here's the economic truth behind the stunning reversal.

Google fanbois have touted the 'Openess of Android' as a reason to put up with that sub par experience compared to Apple's well designed iMobile products. Read this expose of Android as a crippled OS at the hands of Google itself while Google works closely with cellar companies who want locked in customers only. Google killed the single phone that was truly open!

Here is just one insightful comment on the above story.

Completely Agree. As the Author rightly says: “Google doesn’t need openness anymore.” “In short, a generic Android phone that isn’t also a “Google-enhanced” Android phone isn’t worth selling. And you can’t make a Google-enhanced Android phone without Google’s permission.”

What a revelation – and ask Google to “open” up the algorithm for their search and advertising – lets see how open they get!
While I am still upset about Apples App Store being closed, at least Apple had the guts to force ATT to do things that Google cannot or will not. The iPhone still has NO carrier related software by default – NO WHERE IN THE WORLD – do you get than Goobois? The iPhone App Store still is not controlled by the carriers – NO WHERE IN THE WORLD.

Apple broke the Carriers backs and made the handset and small developer king – carriers were screwed. Google/Android could have gone that model and forced carriers to stay away from the App store and the interface. Instead we have gazillion versions of Android interface, Android app stores by carriers forced down unwitting consumers throats. Google proved to be the most evil when they had the chance to beat Apple and the Carriers.

This has to be best article exposing Google. Bravo.

Boy, that's not a biased article. Hard to take an article seriously with a title like that. And Android over all is outselling the iPhone and projected to continually increase it's market share.

And the greatest thing about Android as opposed to the iPhone? You can actually buy a phone that is just as good as the iPhone if not better that doesn't run on the nation's crappiest network.

Yes Google knows land-line internet is not going to grow much, new frontier (from their ad standpoint) is wireless net. I find it interesting that private companies think they own the airwaves like they own their networks. I think that since the people own the airwaves we should charge them a fee for using them

Corporations don't get big by being considerate to others.
Power corrupts and Google is showing it's true colours.

That business of wifi snooping during street view......
