You can read on the iPad in direct sun. Its not an unlimited capability, but I have done it. I sat out by the pool in 92-93deg in the sun for a couple of hours reading and surfing the web with the iPad in a case.
So yes, there are limits to the marketing claims made by Apple. They werent lying when they said you can read on just like a book. Obviously a book never has a battery life. Books can withstand temps up to 400deg and still work. You can drop a book off a building and it still works. You can pound a book with a hammer. Obviously Apple wasnt claiming that the iPad is exactly the same as a book in every way. Its common sense.
If people are unhappy with the iPad's limitations, they should be able to return them and buy a Kindle or something else that works better for them.
Although they're unlikely to lose this suit, Apple could have avoided this nuisance altogether had they only included an Operating Temperature range on their enclosed product information sheet like most all electronics manufacturers do.
And who reads the technical specifications on electronics? Our society is too much into finding what something cannot do, rather than being amazed at what it can do.
You know, what the next generation iPad needs is more stickers and license agreements to sign before you can do anything on it. Stickers warning you not to try to read a book in your oven, or not to hit your children on the head with it, or that the data service might not always be a good deal, or that you shouldn't drive and surf the web, or a disclaimer saying that the iPad will NOT fulfill ALL your hopes and dreams, do your taxes for you, or make you more attractive to member of the opposite sex.
I always find forums for different products interesting. I follow two different BMW motorcycle forums, two different Polaris RZR forums and now this Apple iPad forum and there's always a bunch of of people who complain about what seems to me to be such trivial complaints. I own all three of these products and am so impressed with what state of the art products these are and am so glad someone out there can design, manufacture and sell at a reasonable price such neat products. I think were getting to spoiled and need to stand back and realize how lucky we are.
But then that's just my perspective......
Research product first > don't buy product if not up to expectations...... Simple
