Having the simple (4-digit) passcode (pin) to unlock my iPad I do not see the numbers I actually type in displayed on the screen (inside the fields) - am I doing something wrong???
Passwords in appstore and on websites (etc) are displayed for a short time, but not during unlocking....
however, it is pretty easy to "shoulder" the pin, and fingerprints on screen are pretty easy to de-cipher. It os recommended (for the print-issue) to change rotation from time to time...

Other then what I read here, I don't know much about the unlock pass codes, and haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it. I rarely use my iPad in public and don't keep any sensitive data on it, so I don't bother with a lock code.

Just use your common sense. And if you are worried about finger print giveaways, wipe the screen off now and then.
