To keep them constantly synced, I'd recommend iCloud.

Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices.

If it is a one time transfer then you should be able to select all contacts in Outlook and export them as a vCard file. I'm fairly certain you can do this, but I don't have Outlook to test. Mail the file to the iPad, tap and hold on the attachment fo an option to import the contacts to the Contacts app.

I still recommend iCloud or another online service to sync with. It is never a good idea to keep all your up-to-date data in one place.

    Hey twerppoet:
I reread your suggestion about using vcard format then I emailed file to my verizon acct and it automatically downloads it to my iPad
All my Contacts are now in my Contacts folder on the iPad.
Tnx for your Guidance to an Apple newbie.

No problem. Glad it worked for you.

As for your earlier GMail question, if you set your GMail account up as an Exchange account on the iPad it will sync your contacts to the Contacts app. Not as nice as iCloud syncing, since it does not support groups, but still useful. The Exchange account also supports multiple calendars and Push notifications.

Thank you for this link! I refused to sit there and type everything into my iPad by hand. The keyboard is great and all, but this was years of me gathering my contact information one by one, and friend by friend, lol.
Save time... see it my way.
