Would one need to get a antivirus and anti spyware application for the ipad2?
I know that most people say there's no threat, but is this really the case? For example, is it safe for me to log onto my Internet banking?

Logging onto Internet banking has nothing to do with antivirus and anti spywares. One is viruses the other is pain old wireless security. Viruses are code based, hacking is 'breaking in' based.

There are yet no viruses, so no anti virus software needed or available. And antivirus won't stop hacking. Your broadband connection and router will stop this. So, make sure if you do banking online you do it behind a secure connection and not a public hot spot like a coffee shop or airport.
