    iPad 1 with sound problems

Before I take this in to the Apple store I want to cover all my bases. My iPad has no sound for anything but music and media apps like Netflix. I have checked the settings within games and such. I have also restarted my iPad by holding down the power and home buttons at the same time. I have looked through the settings to try to find something I might have missed. I just can't figure it out. I am wondering if anyone can suggest anything I might have missed before I take it in. Thanks!

Do you have the button above the sound rocker set to mute or to lock screen. If set to lock screen have you checked the setting by swiping the screen up (or double tapping the home button) and then swiping the lower edge to the right. There you will see the mute symbol and a sound level slider. I use this set up and have discovered that sometimes the mute is one and I didn't want it to be.
